Paul 5 Months

Paul is 5 months old. He likes to touch and grab things. Here he is feeling a pineapple.

Libby is taking a photography class (Christmas present from Dave). Paul feeling the pineapple is Libby's "foreground framing" practice.

Maggie likes to have her picture taken, and also likes to tell Libby what to take pictures of. Maggie went to the dentist for the first time a few weeks ago, so she wanted Libby to take pictures of her teeth.

Living Planet Aquarium

Libby and Maggie have a membership to a nice little aquarium in Sandy. It's a good place to go because it's really kid-friendly and Maggie of course loves it. Dave took a day off this week to get some work done around the house, and Libby was going to take the kids to get them out of Dave's hair, but on second thought we decided to make it a family outing, which was way more fun. Here are Dave and Maggie touching the sting rays.

Merry Christmas, Everybody! We had a great Christmas, and hope you did, too. Here are some of our favorite pictures of the day:

Last night we took Maggie to see the lights on Temple Square. Paul got to stay with Cody and Gretel and we got to walk around with just Maggie. She loved to see the lights and the fountains and all the people.

Festival of Trees

Last Wednesday my Mommy & Me group took a field trip to the Festival of Trees. Maggie had lots of fun in the "Kids Corner." I bought her a few tickets to use at the booths and she got to decorate this tree with glue and spangles, get her nails painted, go fishing for a paper fish with a dum-dum on it, and stand in a "bubble machine" (a wading pool filled with bubble solution where you stand on a stool in the middle and they raise up a hula-hoop up around you and it makes a big bubble tube with you inside).

Libby Quilts

Paul's Blessing / Maggie's Birthday

Today we blessed little Paul. He got a wonderful blessing from Dave with Rich, Gene, Zach, Dallas, Alan, and Dave Lewis in the circle. We had a big sandwich lunch at our house afterwards, and celebrated Maggie's 2nd birthday, as well. It was fun to have a party for her with so much family in town. She got lots of presents and had a great time playing with all of her cousins.

Happy Halloween!

Maggie was a robot for Halloween. She was cute and it was fun, but I learned that it's not a good idea to make a toddler costume out of a box, because she kind of needs to be able to sit down, be carried by a parent, ride in a stroller, get up after falling, etc. This is all hard to do in a box.

We put Paul in his skeleton costume and carried him around, too. At the time of this photo shoot, however, he was still wearing regular clothes plus the cutest hat ever that we just got from Grandma Frankie. This hat has the amazing power of making him about 20x cuter than without hat. We don't know why.

Paul is 2 Months Old!

Paul will be 2 months old tomorrow. He is getting so big! He barely fits into his 0-3 onesies anymore.

Maggie is getting really big, too. She'll be turning 2 this week and she is wearing size 3T pajamas!

Utah State Fair

We took Maggie and Paul to the Utah State Fair in September, shortly after Paul was born. We had a great time until we ate the corn dog that gave us all food poisoning the next day (we suspect)! Anyway, we were still having fun at the time these photos were taken.

Pumpkin Party / Dave's Birthday

Dave and Martha Lewis invited us over for a really fun Pumpkin Party on Conference weekend. Maggie got to choose a pumpkin to bring home from their pumpkin patch. She had a lot of fun.

Frankie also made Dave a birthday cake and we sang him Happy Birthday at the party.

Meet Paul!

It's official -- his name is Paul.

He was born Wednesday, August 31st at 2:34am, weighing 7lbs 12oz and measuring 20 inches. We're all doing great. We love Paul and we're so happy to have him home with us!

We haven't been taking as many pictures of Maggie lately, because she's getting really hard to take pictures of. She doesn't hold still much, and she usually tries to take the camera away from the photographer and it ends in a big crying fit. Also, she's usually totally grubby with food and dirt all over her clothes and her hair totally unkempt. But we managed to get a clean, neat, Maggie in a cooperative mood this morning and got some pictures. So here she is!

This is one of the new gates Dave has put up. He's almost done with the project which will totally enclose our back yard and prevent children from escaping.

This last picture is of course what naturally follows Mama saying, "Not in your mouth!"

This is our vegetable garden. It's doing pretty well. So far we've harvested some zucchini, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, radishes, lettuce, green onions, carrots, green peppers, and a cucumber. We expect lots more of all of those things and also hopefully some corn, pumpkins, and a few peas.

June Mommy & Me Field Trip -- Liberty Park

Liberty Park here in SLC has this really cool area with waterfalls, streams, and pools that little kids can play in. It was our Mommy & Me field trip this month. It was great. Lots of fun for Maggie, and nice for me because I didn't have to be in a bathing suit and could sit in the shade and watch Maggie have fun.

Winchester Reunion

The Winchester Reunion was kind of low-key this year on account of most siblings not being able to come. We went to Grandma & Grandpa Winchester's Homedale ranch and saw cousins Mitchell, Morgan, Gretel, Wesley, Owen, Gwen, Laney, J.D., Max, and Jack.

Baby Update

Dave's sister Jennifer commented after our "Nothin Doin'" post that she thought maybe we would have posted about the baby, because that is sort of a big thing going on in our family right now. I guess I just figured it was old news to anyone reading this blog and didn't need to be posted about. But here he is. We are expecting a baby boy on Sept. 19 this year. We had our 20-week ultrasound a few weeks ago and everything looks good. We're really excited!

Wheeler Farm

We have a really great play group in our ward. Every Wednesday we get together at a different Mom's house, and every 4th Wednesday we have a field trip. Last month's trip to Temple Square was one of these field trips. This month we went to Wheeler Farm. It is a city-owned living farm here in Salt Lake City, where it is free for anyone to go and see the farm animals. Maggie really loved it. Her favorite part was throwing bread to the ducks and geese. She also had a lengthy conversation with this little goat.

Temple Square

Maggie got to visit Temple Square for the first time this week. It was a fun day for Maggie. We rode TRAX downtown, which Maggie LOVED, then we met some friends at Temple Square and walked around a bit and then went to lunch. Maggie's favorite things were getting soaked at the edge of the reflecting pool and pushing all the buttons on the touch screen displays in the visitor's centers. Libby's favorite part was the new scale model of the temple in the south visitor's center.

We haven't posted for a while, because we haven't been doing anything really exciting (except for taking Maggie to the zoo for the first time this week with her Moses cousins, but we forgot the camera). Here is a picture of Dave and Maggie just hanging out in our front room.

We had Christmas morning at home, followed by a trip to Orem to have a yummy Christmas brunch with the Reimschussels.
Maggie got to open lots of presents and had lots of fun playing with her Reimschussel cousins.
It was a very merry Christmas. We hope yours was, too!

Snow!

We have been getting some really big snowstorms lately.

Last week the snowstorms caused us a lot of trouble, starting with Sunday, when our power was out from about 7am until 10pm and we nearly froze to death; then on Wednesday, when our drive to Idaho Falls was supposed to take 3 1/2 hours but took nearly 5 1/2, because even though we had waited for the storms to stop and the sun to come out before we left, it never got warm enough that day to melt the ice on the freeway; and then finally on Friday morning when, due to a previously undetected battery/alternator problem worsened by the freezing temperatures, our car broke down within the first 5 miles of our trip home from Idaho Falls. Fortunately, we had turned around and made it almost back to Whitney's house before it completely died, and Maggie and I were able to go inside and get warm and play with the Moses cousins for a few more hours while Dave and Alan got the car running again. Definitely, if your car is going to break down, having it do so within a mile of the home of your brother-in-law who happens to be an auto mechanic is the way to go. Thanks, Alan!

Today we are happy to be home in our warm, cozy house. After last week, we're feeling really grateful for the little things. Like heat. We got over a foot of new snow last night and it sure is fun to go outside and get our noses red, and then come in for a cup of hot cocoa and a nice cozy nap.

And for family home evening tonight, we'll be going over our emergency preparedness plans.

Thanksgiving

We had a really nice Thanksgiving in Idaho Falls with the Moseses and Grandma and Grandpa Winchester. Dinner was delicious and Maggie had a great time with her Moses cousins. Thanks Whitney and Alan!

Maggie's First Birthday

Maggie is 1 Year Old!

Her birthday was on Tuesday, but we waited until today to celebrate with family and friends.

Maggie enjoyed eating her cake, but even more, she enjoyed sharing Grandpa's chocolate ice cream.

Happy Halloween everybody!

I know it's early, but tonight our ward had "Trunk-or-Treat," and we're not sure if we'll be dressing Maggie up again, so these may just be our official Halloween Pictures. Maggie and Dave are Little Red Riding Hood and the Woodsman, and I am Libby With Spiders on her Jacket. The Trunk or Treat was fun. My favorite part was having lots of cute little kids walked up to me and shout "Treat or Trunk!"

Today is Dave's birthday, but we had cake and ice cream and opened some presents last night at Rich and Frankie's. We had a birthday breakfast and opened some more presents this morning, but we were all in our pajamas, so we didn't take pictures. Happy Birthday, Dave!

New Camera

We finally decided that it was time to buy a new camera. Maggie is just too cute to keep taking crummy pictures of her. Okay, so these pictures are still not that great--we're still reading the user manual. But we are so excited to finally have a nice camera! It's a Nikon D3100 and so far it looks like it's going to be great.

Maggie is 10 Months

Maggie is 10 months old. She is getting really big and is hardly a baby anymore. She's pretty much a toddler. In fact, she can take a few steps if she wants to, but mostly she crawls.

Here are some other facts about Maggie:

She has her two front teeth on the bottom.

She got her first real haircut last week. We went to a kid's cut place and they gave her a balloon.

She loves her books, especially her "Where's Maisy?" lift-the-flap book. She likes to turn the pages and lift the flaps herself.

She likes to play peek-a-boo, and will cover herself up or hide her face behind things and wait for someone to ask "Where's Maggie?" before peeking out.

When she is tired, she snuggles with a stuffed animal and sucks her thumb. Her favorite stuffed animals are her puppy dog, her lamb, and her Snuffleupagus.
